DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is what I affectionately call the longevity hormone. Like testosterone, it is an androgen (though not a sex hormone per se) produced by the adrenal glads and the central nervous system.

DHEA is the most abundant hormone in your bloodstream.

DHEA is the building block of 18 different hormones including estrogen and testosterone.

DHEA levels are inversely associated with insulin levels. When DHEA is low, insulin is high and vice versa.

DHEA can make cortisol, progesterone, and testosterone.

If you have spent years feeling stressed out, your DHEA has most likely been siphoned off to make cortisol leaving you low in progesterone and testosterone.

The DUTCH test can tell you your exact DHEA levels.

The benefits of optimal DHEA levels include:

  • Gives you glowing skin

  • Helps the body burn fat

  • Improves memory

  • Promotes lean muscle development

  • Strengthens immunity

  • Supports bone growth

  • Supports the stress response

Want to increase your DHEA levels? DHEA rises in response to a diet free of processed carbs and free of sugar. So yes, you can fight aging by what you eat, how much you eat, and when you eat.
