What’s the problem with sugar?

Way back in 1972 John Yudkin, a British nutritionist, proposed that sugar, NOT dietary fat, was driving heart disease and obesity.

In 1977 the US Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs declared that dietary fat caused heart disease and obesity. This set up a new precedent: a government institution telling us what we should and should not eat—less fat, about 30% of calories and more carbs, up to 60% of calories. From here came the infamous food pyramid and the American Heart Association’s recommendations to eat white bread and carbonated soft drinks (I kid not. Look up their 1995 pamphlet).

What’s the problem with sugar?

  • It stimulates insulin secretion and leads to insulin resistance.

  • Sugar has no nutritional value.

  • Sugar is added to foods during processing and may be present in higher concentrations than in natural foods.

  • Sugar contains zero dietary fiber to help balance out the harmful effects.

  • Sugar is ubiquitous in refined and processed foods but is often listed as one of its many aliases on nutrition labels.

High levels of sugar cause:

  • Cancer

  • Decreased immunity

  • Depression

  • Diabetes

  • Elevated blood glucose levels

  • Fatty liver

  • Heart disease

  • High blood pressure

  • Hormone imbalances

  • Hyperinsulinemia

  • Hyperleptinemia

  • Inflammation

  • Weight gain

For your health and longevity, take steps to eliminate sugar from your diet. Assume that IF IT COMES IN A PACKAGE, IT CONTAINS ADDED SUGAR.
