Is sugar driving your inflammation?

In 1977 the Dietary Guidelines for Americans warned the general public about the dangers of eating too much sugar. That was largely ignored because of the anti-fat movement.

I have clients come in with high blood pressure and, following their doctors advice, have pretty much eliminated salt from their diet. Salt doesn’t cause HBP. It’s the sugar and processed carbs they consume.

Sugar raises blood glucose levels which spike insulin. The more sugar you consume, the more your body must process which means you require more insulin.

Sugar is highly inflammatory. Health risks from sugar consumption include cancer, decreased immunity, diabetes, heart disease, leptin resistance, metabolic inflexibility, weight gain, and high blood pressure.

HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP

One of the most common ways we ingest sugar is a liquid-sugar equivalent called high-fructose corn syrup. HFCS is processed from corn and like seed oils, it is cheap to produce which means food companies make bigger profits. You can find HFCS in cakes, cookies, bread, cereals, soup, pasta sauce, ketchup, bbq sauce, juice, and sodas.

What does all of this have to do with cholesterol?

A driving factor for elevated Triglycerides and LDL cholesterol is sugar and highly processed foods.
